Denis Shiryaev is a Russian Youtuber who has been able to use neural networks to upscale and colorize a clip made in 1911 to 4k resolution and 60fps. Denis did this quite extraordinary task with the help of neural networks and this show how powerful neural networks can be when used together.

Here is the original clip from 1911 called the A Trip to New York City taken by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern on a trip to America:

Here is the upscaled and colorised version by Denis Shiryaev:

How did he do it?

Denis used a combination of three different algorithms called the Gigapixel AIDain and DeOldify NN.

The Gigapixel AI by Topaz Labs is used for upscaling the video whereas Dain is used to add fps through depth-aware video frame interpolations. Finally, DeOldify was used to add color to the video.

In Conclusion

What do you think about this kind of advancement of neural networks? If you have projects like this that the world should know about, feel free to write down a comment.
